Tabor Ridge Church Of Christ Historic Marker
Tabor Ridge Church of Christ, 6727 Tabor Ridge Road, Stockport - Tabor Church was organized March 20, 1849 by L. M. Harvey and Solomon DeVore, in what was known as the Grimes School. This edifice was a log building which stood in a field not far from the present church. The first building erected in 1850 was a 34 x 30 fr. Structure. There were 26 charter members. On Sept 6, 1885 a new building was dedicated at the site of the present church. A new bell was placed in the belfry in Jan 1890. Today this bell is mounted on the front lawn. In 1964 a vestibule was added to the church with 3 additional classrooms added in 1978. In 1984the first indoor restrooms were installed along with the addition of another classroom. Due to the growth of the congregation, in 1988 plans were drawn for a new building to be added to the old structure. In a special congregational meeting the membership agreed to buy more land, borrow money and approved the plans to build. Groundbreaking for the new building was held in July 1990 and actual construction began in Sept, that same year. The first morning worship service in the new sanctuary was May 5, 1991. Due to the Lord's blessing the congregation at Tabor continued to grow. In 1999 two additions were planned: a 44x 36ft. Fellowship Hall/Bible School area and a 44 x 36 ft. addition to the main sanctuary, with a basement. Dedication service for the new addition was held on June 4, 2000.
