Public Fishing
Jesse Owens State Park
Jesse Owens State Park is a success story in environmental stewardship, conservation, and reclaiming land for outdoor recreation. Located in Morgan County and surrounded by thousands of acres of land open to public use, the park is teeming with wildlife. The park's variety of ponds and lakes offer plentiful fishing and paddling options. Several hundred small lakes and ponds are stocked with bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass. Several of the larger lakes have ramps and allow boats up to 9.9 horsepower. |
Wolf Creek Wildlife Area
The Wolf Creek Wildlife Area is 3,978 acres of ODNR-owned land set aside for public hunting and fishing. Wolf Creek and its tributaries produce smallmouth bass, rock bass, and suckers. Many small ponds ranging in size from one-half acre to over seven acres yield good catches of largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. This property has stocked fishing ponds with species such as bass and channel catfish. Wolf Creek also features youth fishing areas. |
Burr Oak State Park
The ODNR Division of Parks and Watercraft operates and maintains Burr Oak State Park parking lots, wells, toilets, and launching areas for anglers. There is a 10-horsepower limit on Burr Oak Lake. Boats with a higher horsepower must be operated at idle speed/no wake. |
Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area
Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area is a popular destination for hunting, fishing, trapping, and other forms of wildlife recreation. Scattered ponds that were created through the reclamation process provide fishing prospects for anglers. Largemouth bass and bluegill are the predominant species of fish in the ponds and wetlands. |
Muskingum River State Park
All three species of black bass (largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted), saugeye, and various species of catfish swim in the Muskingum River. Bass are also found in several tributaries. Fishing is permitted from boats and at each of the lock sites. However, fishing is prohibited from the lock walls. |
